Ice Cream Trucks

Weather in DC was in the upper 60s yesterday, and sunny. And in the middle of the afternoon a bunch of us stepped outside for a chipwich from Scoops2U. Seeing as how I didn’t go out for lunch, it was the perfect break to at least get a taste of upcoming spring weather (delayed a bit, again, this weekend).

We queued up next to the truck, with someone commenting that they hadn’t stood in line at an ice cream truck since childhood. And yes…that was probably about right. But yet, there were were, giddy for the ice cream just steps away, laughing and enjoying the sun and relative warmth. One would have thought it was spring already.

I stuck to the basics with chocolate chip cookies and mint chocolate chip ice cream, and it was delicious. A bit more of a gourmet step up than the ice cream I once got as a child, when the music was heard at the end of the street and one climbed out of the pool as quickly as possible to meet the truck as it neared the house or a friend’s house. And granted this truck did not have music (who needs that when you have Twitter?), but there was still that sweet indulgence turning away from the truck and cupping one’s chosen ice cream.

Yes. I’m ready for spring. I’m ready for the sun to come out and stay out and the weather to start warming up for real without all these steps back to winter. What is it they say? Two steps forward and one step back? Yup. That sounds about right.
