Over the summer, I saw a few reminders about reconnecting with the goals one set back in January. That the mid-year point was a great time to check in and reassess if a goal was still a priority or what may now be needed in the upcoming months to meet those goals. And while the mid-year may have been a few weeks ago, I don’t think it’s too late to check in. Especially to get ahead of upcoming busy schedules with back to school leading to fall activities and leading to the holidays.
If movement and/or mindfulness were areas of intention at the start of the year, checking back in on your yoga studio’s class schedule is a great step to reconnecting. Are there class times you’ve forgotten are offered? Or has your schedule changed that may now allow for taking a different class? A few months ago, I talked about how fun yoga studio challenges can be, but if there isn’t one offered this time of year, you could make your own. For example: taking a certain number of classes a week for a set time period, or maybe challenging yourself to take a class with a teacher you haven’t taken from before. The connection between breath and movement may help with that mindfulness intention as well.
Another great way to reconnect with the above intentions: workshops! The Mat Yoga Studio here in Dallas has workshops coming up in the next few months. The studio is also beginning another year of 300-hour yoga teacher training, which offers some opportunities to attend open workshops during topic-focused weekend trainings or with visiting yoga teachers.
And if working with a personal schedule that’s crowded or seemingly in flux as we move from summer vacations back to fall routines, a great thing to look out for is a studio with virtual options. The Mat’s virtual classes can be taken live – a great option if the commute may be difficult to depend upon during this settling back into routine period – or taking a recorded class when the time is available.
There are still several months remaining for the year and it can be a good time to check in on those goals and intentions set back in January. How are they doing? Have priorities shifted and changed? That’s an important thing to consider too, to adjust goals based on things that have come up during the year. And how do you want to wrap up the year? I had movement in mind with this post, which was an intention of mine, but it’s a good time to consider all those plans made at start of the year.
This is the part of a series of posts for The Mat Yoga Studio, sharing my thoughts and observations as a student only. The views and opinions are my own experience.
