I returned home late last night from a great, much-needed few days away at the beach. I unplugged and basically…hung out.
Each morning I was there, I woke up early and walked in the surf, listening to only the ocean surf and maybe the occasional seagull or two. Noise machines may be great, but nothing beats the sound of waves rolling in when it’s right next to you. And as I stood there, taking yet another picture, I thought “how many photos can I possibly take of the ocean? Don’t I have enough?”
Click. Nope.
I spent quite a bit of time reading as well, getting through one whole book in about two days and then finishing up another book I’d started earlier (and also getting quite a bit through a third one). I’d debated on taking my laptop so I’d be able to work some on the novel, but now that I’m back, I’m kind of glad I stuck with my decision to unplug. On the train home yesterday, I just thought that I couldn’t wait to sit back down and come at the story anew. Well, that and I couldn’t wait to get home to sort through my photos.
Another highlight of the trip, other than the recharging? Dolphins!
I didn’t get any pictures, but Sunday morning they swam back and forth for a bit in front of us, their dorsal fins coming up periodically among the waves. It was wonderful, especially since I wasn’t sure if I’d see any. Made the short burst of rain so worth it.
