Hard to believe that as I started drafting this post we (here in North Texas) were one week out from another freeze. As I wrap up this post, we hit the first 90-degree day of the year. February’s post last month on coziness feels like a distant memory and I am thinking ahead to warm sunshine and spring. After the heaviness of winter, spring feels light, bright…hopeful. Joyful. Probably there’s something to that emergence from hibernation thing.
That lightness that comes with the start to longer days – days which can still have a bit of coolness to them – bring so many little joys. The other morning, just as the soft rays of the sun began lighting the dark I listened to birds singing as I sipped on my morning coffee. I look forward each morning now to their song, but that morning it struck me since it felt like quite some time since I last heard them.
Each season brings some of these little things, these seemingly small moments with much more joy. With spring, there are bird songs, seeing a new tree start to bloom as I run errands, a crisp morning walk or an evening patio conversation over a glass of wine, fields blanketed in wildflowers, cherry blossoms.
I would say I try when I can to enjoy those little moments, only it struck me to write “when I can.” Isn’t that the point? Not just fitting enjoyment into one’s schedule, but making time for it instead.
I hope this spring you find some time to enjoy the blossoms, the morning chill as the ground wakes up, and a few moments to just listen to the birds.
