a new style of dancing

So earlier this week I took my first ballroom dance lesson. So let me start with the obvious: It is challenging to dance backwards and in heels.

I’ve danced in heels at clubs, so the wearing of heels wasn’t the challenging part. It was the dancing backwards and putting your trust in someone, strangers, that you won’t run into another couple or a plant or something.

Given that I do have a dancing background somewhat, the timing was not too much of a problem. In this first class, I was at least able to keep time in my head, but that’s not to say I didn’t stumble a few times. And I guess that’s actually where the heels-wearing proved a bit of a challenge. If when I stepped my weight was just slightly off balance on the heel, then that threw me a little off balance it took me another step or two to get back in sync.

But I survived the first night and had a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to the next class and will keep you guys updated of my adventures in ballroom dancing. And maybe, after this class, adventures in salsa. I’m thinking if I finally took the plunge to learn tango and waltz, then I really should sign up for salsa, which I’ve wanted to take for even longer.

Wish me luck for next week!
